Random Acts of Listening: Inheritance by Christopher Paolini

November 9, 2011

Today, we’re happy to welcome back our friends in the audio division for another “Random Acts of Reading” post, written by Katie Fleming.

This August, Christopher Paolini, author of the Inheritance cycle, came by the studio during the weeklong recording session for Inheritance, the final book in the series. Gerard Doyle, who has narrated all four audiobook editions, and Christopher have worked very closely over the years on pronouncing the many unusual character and place names, from Galbatorix to Urghals!

After getting a chance to observe the recording session with Gerard and director Taro Meyer, Christopher and Gerard sat down together to film a video interview for fans discussing how they’ve collaborated on the series, what their favorite voices are, and what might be next up (maybe a sci-fi novel??). You can watch the full interview on YouTube here.

Christopher and his editor, Michelle Frey, also recorded a bonus discussion that will be featured at the end of the audio edition where they talked about the journey they’ve had together crafting the series together, their favorite moments, and what it felt like to write the final scene of the book (break out the tissues for that part!).

Inheritance is definitely on our top listens list, and should be on yours too! Get started by checking out a clip.

My mother listens to this series on audio, while my daughter enjoys it in print. I am glad to hear that the narrator that she has grown to love in this series will be there to regale her again this time around. Great post!
