Random Acts of Listening: The Bippolo Seed

September 28, 2011

Ebony from our audio division joins us again today for another insider’s look at a fun new audiobook. The Dr. Seuss celebrity audio compilations are favorites with children and adults and this new audiobook is sure to be another classic!

What do Barney Stinson and the Grand High Witch have in common? What about Tyrion Lannister of Game of Thrones and Constance Dobler of the 80s classic Say Anything? Wait, let’s add “Earl”, a Fargo resident, and Richard Gilmore to the mix. Any ideas? Well, Listening Library has brought together the stars of these notable pictures and TV shows to narrate a new collection of short stories from Dr. Seuss:  The Bippolo Seed and Other Lost Stories.

Producer Dan Zitt worked on the audio project for weeks; each of Dr. Seuss’s classics, from The Cat in the Hat to How the Grinch Stole Christmas are incredible audiobook recordings and The Bippolo Seed and Other Lost Stories is no exception. With a little help from Listening Library and a few Emmy and Oscar nominees and winners, these seven lost stories are brought to life on audio. Listeners of all ages who have read or listened to Seuss’ whimsical stories over the years will find a new favorite this September.

With some stories more than fifty years old, The Bippolo Seed and Other Stories has a modern spin with help from the audiobook’s narrators. Neil Patrick Harris is America’s favorite womanizer on the hilarious sitcom  How I Met Your Mother. His star has risen pretty steadily over the last couple of years; from hosting the Emmy and Tony Awards, to starring in the upcoming Muppets film, Harris is the perfect reader for the collection’s title story. Anjelica Huston belongs to one of acting’s greatest dynasties and will contribute to a new one by narrating Dr. Seuss’ The Rabbit, the Bear, and the Zinniga-ZannigaMemphis Beat star Jason Lee is known for playing diverse characters, and has little trouble reading Gustav, the Goldfish. “Saturday Night Live” alum Joan Cusack entertains audiences reading Tadd and Todd and more recently can be seen on Showtime’s Shameless. Gilmore Girls fans will be hungry for Edward Herrmann to narrate Steak, for Supper. Bippolo has another Shameless star on its roster with William H. Macy—while he won’t be bringing his Fargo accent to this recording, audiences are sure to appreciate how Macy will bring this rarely-read Seuss tale to life.  Lastly, Peter Dinklage of Game of Thrones fame is wonderful in The Great Henry McBride.

The timeless author is back with seven new stories! Make sure to press play and give The Bippolo Seed and Other Lost Stories a much-deserved listen!
