Congratulations to our ALA Winners!

January 10, 2011

We were thrilled to see so many Random House titles win American Library Association awards this morning! Several of these titles were favorites in our group and we have blogged about them before, so if you are unfamiliar with these amazing, award-winning titles, please check out the links to our previous posts!

 JOHN NEWBERY MEDAL WINNER

MOON OVER MANIFEST by Clare Vanderpool

Deanna chose this middle grade novel as one of her favorites of the year and included it in our 2010 Holiday Gift Guide.

We also shared a lovely review of the book written by Margaret Neville at The King’s English Bookstore.

Booksellers loved this book- here is a great review of this middle grade novel from Rene Kirkpatrick at Third Place Books.

 MICHAEL L. PRINTZ HONOR

PLEASE IGNORE VERA DIETZ by A.S. King

This book was beloved by our entire group and we have shared early buzz about it, included it in our Holiday Gift Guide, shared a look at the book’s launch party and were part of A.S. King’s hilarious blog tour.

 MILDRED L. BATCHELDER AWARD

A TIME OF MIRACLES by Anne-Laure Bondoux; Translated by Y. Maudet

This award, established in Mildred L. Batchelder’s honor in 1966, is a citation awarded to an American publisher for a children’s book considered to be the most outstanding of those books originally published in a foreign language in a foreign country, and subsequently translated into English and published in the United States.

PURA BELPRÉ ILLUSTRATOR HONOR

The Pura Belpré Award, established in 1996, is presented to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.

We included this title in a round-up of wonderful multi-cultural books for babies and toddlers.
