We were thrilled to see so many Random House titles win American Library Association awards this morning! JOHN NEWBERY MEDAL WINNER
MOON OVER MANIFEST by Clare Vanderpool
Deanna chose this middle grade novel as one of her favorites of the year and included it in our 2010 Holiday Gift Guide.
We also shared a lovely review of the book written by Margaret Neville at The King’s English Bookstore.
JOHN NEWBERY HONOR
TURTLE IN PARADISE by Jennifer L. Holm
Booksellers loved this book- here is a great review of this middle grade novel from Rene Kirkpatrick at Third Place Books.

This book was beloved by our entire group and we have shared early buzz about it, included it in our Holiday Gift Guide, shared a look at the book’s launch party and were part of A.S. King’s hilarious blog tour.
MILDRED L. BATCHELDER AWARD
A TIME OF MIRACLES by Anne-Laure Bondoux; Translated by Y. Maudet
This award, established in Mildred L. Batchelder’s honor in 1966, is a citation awarded to an American publisher for a children’s book considered to be the most outstanding of those books originally published in a foreign language in a foreign country, and subsequently translated into English and published in the United States.
PURA BELPRÉ ILLUSTRATOR HONOR
FIESTA BABIES by Carmen Tafolla; Illustrated by Amy Cordova
The Pura Belpré Award, established in 1996, is presented to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.
We included this title in a round-up of wonderful multi-cultural books for babies and toddlers.

ALMOST PERFECT by Brian Katcher
The Stonewall Children’s and Young Adult Literature Award recognizes books of exceptional merit relating to the gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgendered experience.
THE TRUE MEANING OF SMEKDAY by Adam Rex, read by Bahni Turpin
The Odyssey Award is for the best English-language audiobook produced for children and/or young adults.
