12 Days of Books: Day 7

December 17, 2010

We’ll be featuring one short review a day from a member of our group from now until December 24 (excluding weekends) as part of our 12 Days of Books so check back daily! We’ll cover all age ranges, from baby through adult books. And at the end of the 12 days, we will offer one lucky reader the chance to win all 12 books to read yourself, give as gifts, or donate to your local schools or libraries. If you missed day 1, click here. Click here for day 2, and here for day 3, here for day 4, here for day 5, and here for day 6.

Today’s review comes to us from Heather, one of our fantastic blog readers! This is our first “reader review” and we are thrilled to share it with you!

Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly

Perfect for: teens, adults, fans of historical fiction

Why They’ll Love It: My first response after reading this book was, “Wow.” Beautifully written, Revolution is an amazing book for both teens and adults. Donnelly expertly weaves historical fiction into a contemporary story about a girl going through many problems and trying to discover who she is and where she fits in. Many teens do not like historical fiction because it is stifled or boring to them, but this book is different. Most books I have read that alternate from historical to contemporary do so by alternating chapters. However, in Revolution, Donnelly weaves the stories together in a way that is not confusing and is able to catch the interest of teens as well as adults.

Heather, on your recommendation, we listened to the audio book and really enjoyed it. It is read wonderfully and leaves you feeling like you are part of the revolution and lost in the catacombs.
