Random Links and a Giveaway!

July 2, 2010

Before heading into a relaxing holiday weekend, I wanted to mention that we have  two advanced reader copies of the heartwarming middle grade novel Because of Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea to give away! You may have seen the glowing reviews here and here– obviously, we love this book and think you will, too! If you would like to read it, leave a comment on this post. If more than two readers want the books, I’ll use to pick the winners.

Every week, we’ll be sharing links to articles that touched us, gave us a laugh, or made us think.  These are too interesting to keep to ourselves!

This piece just epitomizes what makes independent bookstores so special (and gives a nice plug to The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, a book on top of my summer reading stack!)

Dooce rarely writes about books, but she featured a hilarious guest post this week on The Babysitters Club, written by a true super fan!

I LOVE this article from School Library Journal on bestselling authors’ summer reading picks, featuring one of our authors, Allen Zadoff of Food, Girls, and Other Things I Can’t Have (via Mrs. Nelson’s Toy and Book Shop Blog).

Is it too early to start the Newbery/Caldecott predictions? This School Library Journal blog doesn’t think so (nice buzz for two great Random House books, Dust Devil and Here Comes the Garbage Barge!)

And finally, in honor of this weekend’s Independence Day, the Huffington Post just featured their favorite independent bookstores! Did your local indie make the list?
